The importance of posture
Did you know that good posture is more important than many people realise? It is essential to good spinal health, as well as good overall health.
Lifestyle changes such as spending more time on devices (phones, laptops or computers) and decreased physical movement (less exercise or moving in general) as well as genetics, injuries and illness can all contribute to your posture becoming less than ideal. This can have a ripple effect across the body and also cause other parts of your body to not function correctly.
What is ideal posture?
Ideal posture refers to an alignment of the spinal column and all other segments lined up closely or as balanced to a central line of gravity that runs through the centre of the body. This is where muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments function at your best with as little effort and energy as possible.
The first step to correcting your posture is to identify the signs that you need to take action. Take a look at the signs of poor posture below, do any of these relate to you?
Signs of poor posture:
- Rounded shoulders.
- Potbelly.
- Bent knees when standing or walking.
- Head that either leans forward or backward.
- Back pain.
- Body aches and pains.
- Muscle fatigue.
- Headache.
How to correct your posture?
The posture you develop is controlled by automatic feedback systems in your nerves which stem from your central nervous system in your brain, so not only are you able to correct your “wonkiness” with some movements and exercises, but your chiropractor can have an effect on this with your adjustments.
At Fremantle Chiropractic, our chiropractors can take Posture Photos as part of your discovery and examination sessions and can identify any issues that you may be struggling with. Not only can we incorporate a tailored care plan to address these concerns as part of our prevention process, but we will also give you the tools to function in balance.
Our Posture Poles are also a fantastic resource for you to use at home to help get the most out of your care plan and it is also a handy tool to use while you are having a lunch break at work!
Why don’t you ask our chiropractors for our Morning Movement exercises along side your regular adjustments? Take a look at our four steps to better health below, and make a booking so we can assist you in correcting your posture today!
