Maintaining wellness from the inside out
We’ve heard the saying time and time again that it is easier to stay well then to get well – but what does it really take for us to get well? To maintain good health from within, it is important to start by focusing on four factors:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fuel your body
Good nutritious food teamed with plenty of water is key. Fueling our bodies with essential vitamins and nutrients is critical to the building blocks of your wellbeing. This keeps your heart beating, your brain active and your muscles working.
It also helps to produce a healthy cell turnover when your body is healing, regenerating and developing, so this will affect every part of your body, including all of your internal organs, tissues and muscles. Water is so important for many reasons but it also forms a portion of our waste disposal system and digestion – so if you are not consuming enough – those toxins will build up and will result in a lack of energy and feeling unwell. So it is true what they say – you are what you eat!
Your body needs three major types of nutrients for energy. These are carbohydrates, protein, and fat.
- Carbohydrates provide energy for your brain, muscles, heart, and lungs. This can include quinoa, bananas, sweet potato, beetroot, oranges, blueberries, apples, kidney beans and chickpeas.
- Protein provides energy and helps build and repair your body’s cells. It is found in grass fed meat, poultry, fish, cooked dry beans, nuts and seeds, and some alternative milk products.
- Fat provides energy and it helps to build the covering around nerves in your body, and helps make hormones. Some examples of our healthy fats are found in avocados, oily fish (salmon etc), nuts, olive oil, pasteurised eggs and grass fed meats.
Move your body
Moving your body daily for 30 – 60 minutes helps keep your muscles and bones strong. It also assists in kickstarting your metabolism, helps to improve posture and counteract all that tech time during the day (whether it is at home, at work on your phone or at your desk!)
When using tech often, you might not know it, but this could be having a huge impact on your overall health with ‘Tech Neck’ now becoming a common health issue.
What is tech neck? Tech neck refers to the neck pain and posture damage that consistent looking down at devices for extended periods of time places on your neck. You may not realise it, but staring down hunched over your phone, can put immense amounts of pressure and strain on your neck and spine.
Don’t forget that when using tech, short breaks and movement are essential.
Think well
Our mental health is critical when maintaining your overall wellness and “staying well”. Make time for yourself each day to slow down and do something that you enjoy. We particularly love meditation, our morning movement exercises and posture pole exercises to help you reset! Ask us for these next time you are at Fremantle Chiropractic.
See your Chiro, regularly
Our body’s supercomputer is formed by our brain and spinal cord – coordinating everything from digestion, heart rate, immune health, hormones, movement and much more! So, it’s no secret that regular visits to the chiropractor can vastly improve your health and overall wellness. Chiropractic care is not just a service for adults – children also receive the same excellent benefits from chiropractic care on a regular basis and you will notice there are always little feet running around the practice!
We often hear people say “I’m not in pain, should I see a Chiropractor?”. It doesn’t really make sense to wait until your car has broken down to get it serviced so why would you wait until your body has broken down to look after it? Sometimes the small niggle and aches that you have been putting up with are actually your body’s warning system telling you that something isn’t right. One of the things we hear is “it hasn’t been bad enough to go see someone”, but our advice is don’t wait for a niggle to become a bigger problem.⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our focus is providing a whole-family health and well-being approach where we demystify chiropractic care so our community can experience how amazing it feels when your spine is working well. We enjoy looking after people who are proactive about their health and get adjusted regularly as part of their healthy lifestyle choices to allow their body to function at its peak.⠀⠀⠀
